The UN General Assembly Adopted a Resolution on The Withdrawal of Russian Troops From Ukraine


The UN General Assembly has supported a resolution proposed by Ukraine and its allies that calls on Russia to stop hostilities on Ukrainian territory and withdraw troops from there. The meeting of the assembly was broadcast on the UN media resource . This was also reported on Twitter by the UN.

141 countries voted “for” the adoption of the document, seven “against” (Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea, Nicaragua, Mali, Eritrea), 32 abstained – including Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, as well as China, India, Armenia , Iran.


According  to Evropeiska Pravda , the resolution is based on the principles of the “peace formula” that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented in the fall of 2022 at the G20 summit.

The document, in particular, states that the UN:

– Emphasizes the need for the speedy achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter;

– calls on UN states and international organizations to double their support for diplomatic efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine,

– confirms its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters;

– again demands that Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and calls for a cessation of hostilities;

– requires that all prisoners of war be treated by parties to an armed conflict in accordance with the provisions of the Geneva Convention

– calls on the parties to respect international humanitarian law and to spare the civilian population and civilian objects;
