The State Security Service of Georgia (SSS) reported on May 6 that as a result of operations carried out with the participation of the competent authorities involved in the national system of combating terrorism, activities planned by the Islamic State terrorist organization on the territory of a foreign state were detected in Georgia and detained one citizen of a foreign state.

According to the State Security Service, the evidence obtained indicates terrorist activities in foreign countries. In addition, the agency also seized satellite photographs of strategic locations in the United States of America and European capitals from an electronic information device.

“People who were in contact with the terrorist organization, forms of communication, methods, areas of interest and possible targets of attack outside of Georgia have been identified,” the ministry said in a statement, which also emphasizes that the State Security Service promptly shared the information received with international partners, neighboring countries, including Turkey .

According to the State Security Service, the department “actively” continues operational-search, investigative and covert investigative actions and “an uncompromising fight against international terrorism. Georgia remains one of the reliable partners of the international counter-terrorism system.”

“At the same time, we categorically rule out the information disseminated in foreign media about the presence of military educational and training bases for terrorist purposes on the territory of Georgia,” the State Security Service of Georgia emphasizes.
